European industrial policy for competitiveness and transformation

Key decisions for the development of the European industry must be taken. Therefore, we the Alliance for the Future of Industry welcome the incoming European Commission’s decision to place competitiveness alongside climate ambition at the core of its agenda. Achieving Europe’s green transition cannot come at the expense of industrial strength and economic resilience. Instead, they must go together. The Clean Industrial Deal (CID) represents a vital opportunity to strike this balance, addressing both the environmental and competitiveness challenges faced by European industry.

As highlighted in the Draghi report, maintaining a strong industrial base is crucial for Europe’s economic sovereignty and long-term competitiveness on the global stage. The CID should, therefore, be designed to support a competitive and resilient European industry that drives sustainable growth while enhancing our position in global markets.

Established in Germany in March 2015 the Alliance for the Future of Industry consists of a total of 19 Partners. These include the three founding institutions, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the federation of German Industries (BDI) and the German Metalworkers’ Union (IG Metall), as well as the major German business and industry associations, industrial unions and the German Trade Union Federation.

In cooperation with politics, business associations and trade unions, the Alliance discusses national and European framework conditions in such a way as to promote industrial value creation and employment, aims to reach specific agreements and define priority measures in order to strengthen industrial competitiveness. We are looking forward to discuss the European policies necessary to enhance industrial competitiveness and employment

on March 4, 17:30–20:00, 2025 at the Representation of the State of North Rhein-Westphalia, Brussels
